ABOUT
|
Samson Koletkar, aka Mahatma Moses, is the world’s only Indian Jewish stand-up comedian. A techie-turned-comic, he blends Indian heritage, Jewish roots, and American life into sharp, witty comedy that resonates with audiences across cultures.
Named one of Silicon India’s “10 Indian Comedians Who Found Success in the U.S.”, Samson has performed internationally, with appearances at major festivals including SF Sketchfest, Just for Laughs Vancouver, Twin Cities Jewish Humor Festival, and SF Comedy Day. His work has been featured on NPR, NBC, NDTV, The Times of India, and jWeekly. He was a semi-finalist in the Seattle International Comedy Competition, and a quarter-finalist in both the San Francisco Comedy Competition and the Great Canadian Laugh Off. Beyond the stage, Samson is a cornerstone of the comedy ecosystem he helped build. In 2009, he founded Comedy Oakland, a weekly showcase the San Francisco Chronicle praised as a “comedy utopia in Oakland.” A 2016–2025 “Best Comedy Night” winner in the East Bay Express Readers’ Poll, Comedy Oakland now produces 200+ shows annually, entertaining over 10,000 audience members each year while serving as a proving ground for emerging talent and nationally touring comedians alike. Samson is also the visionary co-creator of Desi Comedy Fest, the largest South Asian comedy festival in America. Founded in 2014, the festival has produced 75+ shows featuring 150+ comedians, reaching more than 15,000 audience members across the U.S., Canada, and India—helping redefine who gets to be seen, heard, and laughed with on major comedy stages. As a performer, Samson has been featured on acclaimed comedy tours across North America, including You’re Funny But You Don’t Look Jewish (42 shows), Funatical Comedy Tour, Pundits with Punchlines, Make Chai Not War, and Sultans of Satire—proof that smart comedy, much like good chai, travels well. Known for his likeable on-stage presence and sharp observational humor, Samson specializes in long-form storytelling rich with clever callbacks, leaving audiences entertained, engaged, and still laughing well after the final punchline lands. |
